Cover Twins?

16 Mar

A little too close for comfort these two, surely?

In a genre so bursting at the seams with carbon copies, the covers are now looking as indistinguishable as the plots. I should probably point out that, going by the publication dates at least, Mills had this one first. Tsk team Kagawa, tsk.

My, that is pretty close. I’ve got to the point where if it’s a YA with a girl with long hair on the cover, I don’t even bother reading the blurb…it’ll just be another in the long line of run-of-the-mill girl/vampire/werewolf/slightly magic/angsty teenage rubbish books that are proliferating like….proliferating things.

I’m writing that down so I remember when it comes to sorting my own cover art…

I’m not sure how it works with cover art, if I’d had that one first though I’d be pretty narked…especially as if you read the Immortal one the cover art doesn’t match the narrative…plus, that one’s been picked up for a film so…yeah…I’d be spitting and hissing like a madwoman if the original cover was mine!

Wow, that’s really similar. I’d like to know how much control the publisher have when it comes to covers. I mean, not about how they’re made, but if they research if there are other similar covers or not. I can understand there are millions of covers out there and there is a chance that one slightly similar one slips through the maze.
But this is just too much of a coincidence.

      It’s a bit much, isn’t it?
It’s not something I’ve ever really thought about…
I mean, there must be a gazillion fantasy novels all featuring a hooded fella and what have you…
      but this one’s…it’s just un-missable!
